Proteus, Inc.

Proteus, Inc. is a multistate non-profit organization that provides affordable healthcare, education assistance, and job training to agricultural workers and their families across Iowa, Indiana, and Nebraska. The Proteus, Inc. mission and vision have always centered around transforming to meet the needs of farmworkers, which is what they have done in the over 40 years of providing services to them and their families.

Leadership and Representation

Proteus, Inc. has shown leadership and representation in their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives by working towards building a diverse Board.

Proteus, Inc. Board of Directors recently devised a plan to work toward increasing the diversity of the Board. The Board’s first strategy included compiling a survey to review key demographics of the current Board of Directors. This allowed Proteus, Inc. to have documented information of the current Board make-up to put into a matrix to better visualize race, ethnicity, gender, geographic location, sector, lived experience, expertise, connections, and much more. The survey and matrix were tailored to fit the needs of the organization. After the results were compiled, the matrix was reviewed at the next Board meeting to identify gaps. Proteus, Inc. created a yearly plan to work toward addressing the gaps and made specific priorities. While Proteus, Inc. understands this is only one step toward advancing DEI, they continue to move forward toward greater representation on the board.
