Within these focus areas are specific ESG topics that drive sustainability targets, goals and initiatives, such as sustainable sourcing, product equity and empowerment, climate impact, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and beyond.

The Principal ESG strategy is governed by an executive task force made up of members appointed by the Chairman, President and CEO Dan Houston, and it reports to the Board of Directors. Principal’s Chief of Inclusion is a member of the task force, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to DEI. The task force ensures that issues are integrated into business decisions, drives the comprehensive ESG strategy and continually engages with stakeholders both internally and externally. Principal gathers intentional feedback from clients, institutional customers, employees and investors to understand priorities and performance expectations for ESG topics.
